The Future of Technology and Society

The course explains the basic concepts behind the new generation of technology development and relate with how they will disrupt the economic and social models. Students will learn to analyse the impacts of technological disruption in business and society, preparing to embrace this change and take advantage of it.  In addition, understand how to foment business innovation through assimilation of new generation of technologies in management, innovation, practices, and technology strategy. The objective is to (i) understand the basic concepts behind the new generation of technology development and relate with how they will disrupt the economic and social models; (ii) analyse the impacts of technological disruption in business and society, and;  (iii) understand how to foment business innovation through assimilation of new generation of technologies in business practices

Social Apps and Ubiquitous Computing

This course qualified the students to think of ubiquitous computing and pervasive technologies as a tool to address social issues. The course explored the potential of pervasive computing, social networks, and “collective thinking” to generate direct engagement of citizens and communities. The solutions had both practical and critical results, leading to new thinking of the role of mobile computing in social affairs. The course promoted a project based approach where, along the course, the students learned to develop a social app solution for a real-world problem scenario.

Social Apps and Intelligent Mobile Service

What are Social Apps?; What is the Social Apps experience? How to create intelligent mobile services? What are the challenges and opportunities to create the next generation of mobile services? Moreover, the course explored visions about the future and enticed the students to come up with their own solutions for real-world problem scenarios.
